In her introduction to The True Secret of Writing: Connecting Life to Language, Natalie Goldberg says, “To find your writer’s voice is to find your spine; it is to connect your breath of inspiration with the world’s breath.” In this retreat at MISA, we will do just that. Natalie will guide us into quiet exploration and attention, both within and without, diving into our unique yet universal experiences.
Just three months before the mid-term elections in the US, this week of sit, walk, write practice will ground us with structure and community. We will settle into ourselves, allow the Wisconsin summer and warm breeze from Lake Superior to support our backs, so that we can simultaneously be actively engaged and be at ease with being in the world.
Each day we will have silence from wake-up till 4:30PM. Class sessions will be Monday - Friday from 9:30 am -12:30 pm & 4 - 6 pm. We will have space for deep listening—to yourself and others—in small and large groups. We will also hold book discussions. There will be free time to write on your own, take a nap or walk. Bring fast writing pens, notebooks and beginner's mind. A reading list will be sent to students upon registration.
The exclusive lodging/meal package for this special workshop week includes four on-campus dinners.
