Using solid colored quilters cottons, students will learn how to stitch an assortment of pieced prints including stripes, dots, lattices, plaids, and tracks. While learning these new techniques, students will also be given information about working with solids colored fabrics, improvisational piecing techniques, and ideas for taking these techniques and creating original quilts.
Pattern is every where especially in good art. During the course of this five day workshop instructor Maria Shell will lead students on a journey through pattern—how to create it and use it in original quilt compositions. Each day will begin with a lecture on construction, composition, artistic excellence, and mindsets. From there, students will begin their individual journeys through improv piecing. Maria connects with each student individually to make sure they are getting what they need to grow as an artist.
The workshop concludes with student led one on one consults with Maria. Each student will have the opportunity to get feedback on what matters most to them whether it be developing a studio practice or honing their construction skills. After the consults, there be a group sharing where all participants will have the opportunity to learn from each other’s work.
