This 5-day Abstract Landscape Painting workshop will provide access to the vocabulary and fundamentals of abstraction through the lens of landscape painting. We will use reference photos to remind us of powerful moments had in the landscape, and channel this energy into color and mark. Each morning we will explore the intersection of abstract language and landscape painting through exercises in drawing, acrylic paint, and collage. These methodologies will be further explored on larger, more involved canvases each afternoon. The combination of guided exercises and open studio sessions provides the structure to introduce new methodologies of creation, and the freedom to explore, experiment and play. Amanda is ready to help you make more informed decisions on the canvas, trust your instinct, and most importantly, to ensure you make the work that you want to make.
This workshop is meant to provide access to the vocabulary of abstraction for all-level artists. Attendees can expect to complete several experimental drawings, collages and acrylic paintings on 9x12 paper, develop preparatory work for larger canvases, build and mix unconventional palettes, and execute 3-4 larger acrylic paintings during this workshop.
