  • 8”x10” or larger gel plate. I prefer the 12”x16” or 12”x12”, but if you already have an 8”’x10”, it is perfectly adequate.

    • Found papers such a book pages, gift wrap, or Japanese papers (light-weight, to be printed on and used for collage)

    Brayer, soft rubber, 2” – 3”

Golden OPEN Acrylic paints and Fluid Acrylics – not High Flow - as many different colors as you have. Include some transparent and some opaque. Do not limit your color palette. Bring as much as possible.

1 tube of Titanium White heavy body acrylic paint, any decent brand, or an 8 oz bottle of Blick Matte Acrylics white.

Acrylic matte medium (I prefer Utrecht brand) or soft gel (NOT heavy gel)

Acrylic glazing liquid/medium (this keeps your fluid acrylics wet longer)

Paint brushes in a few sizes and shapes

Any textured surfaces you can find – corrugated paper, sequin waste, texture plates, rug liner, textured placemats, soffit vent material, plastic fencing, etc. These are to make texture on your gel plate.

Rubber combs, or similar tools – again, for texture on your gel plate.

Drawing tools such as pens, graphite pencils, markers, watercolor crayons. I recommend Posca Pens (paint markers).

    • Plastic container for water (think quart yoghurt container)

    • Big fat roll of paper towels

    • Disposable palette (pad of paper style), 9x12”

    • OPTIONAL – a few 9x12” sheets of Yupo, thin, for making masks.

    • A small sheet of fine sandpaper – 120 grid or smaller is good.

    • Glue stick – Uhu is fine, or any other brand that is not purple.

    • Please go to Jane’s Favorite Materials page for sources:

      Jane will supply:

      • 60# Cheap Drawing Paper

      • Masa paper

      • Scratchfoam for making relief plates

      • Tissue paper for textural work

      • Pearls of wisdom and pearls of stupidity

      • Supply fee is $20. Please deliver it in cash to Jane on the first day of class, preferably taped to a bar of high-quality super dark chocolate, which, she promises, will be shared with the class.
