30-50 ombre fabrics. If full range ombré, like SKY need at least 1/2 yd cuts. Think like a painter. Need your brights, pales, dulls and darks. Not just your mid tones. Expansion is naturally happening when using ombré fabrics, but take time to study your stash and be sure to have all the colors you want represented in depth. Add color stories of solids and wovens if you like to mix your textures. Various hand dyed and imported ombré fabrics on the market. Jennifer likes adding the very light pales of all the Kona colors, Essex linens and metallics. She also loves buying hand dyed beauties of specialty fabrics. Don’t underestimate the importance of lots of muddy darks and whisper lights. Or colors that are odd blends that you can’t figure out what color they even are!

Prior to Workshop To Do’s:
If you have access to OMBRE QUILTS book and SKY fabric early, get them and read the book and play with the fabrics. Jennifer has YouTube videos that talk about color and value to get you warmed up. Practice practice! Also working with color inspiration can be an important step for success. This comes from all kinds of sources: What room do you want quilt to be in? What hues do you feel like working in? Is this a gift for a person who loves a certain palette? Have a photo/art/image that captures the look you love. Take the time to ponder this. Why do you love this image? Bring lots of ideas or create a Pinterest board.
